Aftercare

Take it easy for the rest of the day after you get home following your gastroscopy.

You can perform most activities straight away and travel as long as you feel comfortable. It’s advisable to eat healthy food in moderation for the first day.

Check with your doctor if it’s okay to resume your normal medications.

Follow up

If a biopsy has been performed, you’ll need to follow up the results with your doctor.

Watching out for problems

Delayed complications from gastroscopy are extremely unlikely but you should call your doctor if you experience:

  • increasing chest or abdominal pain
  • vomit with blood in it
  • vomit with what looks like coffee grounds in it
  • black stools.
